ENTERO Construction was appointed as the subcontractor to the Sirocco International to do the engineering, procurement, construction and management of the electrical and mechanical services for the new Gestamp Renewable Industries (GRI) steel mast manufacturing plant in Atlantis, Cape Town.

The project entailed the design supply and installation of the following services:

Basic building services for the administration block, including:

Electrical power distribution


Emergency lighting

Fire detection and evacuation systems

HVAC systems

Data networks

Rational fire designs

Flammable store


Fire detection

High-velocity fire suppression sprinkler system


Main factory building

Electrical power distribution including:

  • Small power
  • Power to bridge crane busbar system
  • Power to various machines from welding machines to bending machines with a power rating of 800A
  • DC power to DC welders
  • Power to external gantry crane busbar systems

High-level lighting system with emergency backup

Fire detection

Fire suppression in sensitive areas such as painting booths

Gas lines including:

  • 10 bar compressed air ring main and lines
  • 7 bar compressed air ring main and lines
  • Oxygen lines
  • ATHAL gas ring main and lunes
  • LPG ring main and lines

Electrical bulk supply

MV indoor switching station for the city of Cape Town

MV cables to GRI indoor substation

2x 1MVA 11,5 Kv / 420V transformers with switchgear and protection

Main LV DB with power factor correction

Temporary miniature substation installation with associated cable works

Bulk fire water supply:

  • Firewater tank
  • Firewater booster pump station

Given the magnitude of the project (12 000m² factory plus supporting buildings), we are very proud of our achievement to deliver not only world-class facility but delivering it on time. The faculty is now seen by GRI as their flagship facility. Something not only we are proud of, but all the people from Atlantis (labourers and small subcontractors) who worked tirelessly to complete the project on time.
